We're moving our own site from Wix to Lovable, so this is the plan we're following, written up for anyone doing the same.

The big difference from a WordPress move: Wix doesn't let you export your site. Its own help centre explains that Wix sites rely on Wix's technology and can't be hosted anywhere else. So this isn't a "download and re-upload" job. It's a careful rebuild, with your content captured first.

Last checked: October 2026. Confirm platform details in Wix's help centre and Lovable's documentation before you start.

Why people leave Wix

  • Design limits. Custom layouts, databases and logic quickly push past what the editor allows.
  • Speed and SEO control. You want full control of page titles, structured data, redirects and how pages render.
  • Cost creep. Paid apps and plan upgrades add up.
  • Ownership. You want your site's code and content somewhere you control.

The plan at a glance

Step What you'll have at the end
1. Capture Every page, post, image and form recorded outside Wix
2. Rebuild The new site on Lovable's preview address, hidden from search
3. Redirect map Every old Wix URL mapped to its new home
4. Domain plan A decision on where the domain and email will live
5. Switch The new site live, email working
6. Clean up Wix plans cancelled only once everything is stable

Step 1: Capture everything before you touch anything

Because there's no export button, you collect content yourself:

  • Page list. Copy every URL from your sitemap (/sitemap.xml) and your menus.
  • Page text. Copy each page into a document or spreadsheet, keeping headings. This is also the moment to cut what's out of date.
  • Blog posts. Wix lists exporting blog posts to other platforms as a feature request, not a built-in tool. Your blog's RSS feed can help you pull titles, dates and text; otherwise copy posts manually, starting with the ones that get traffic.
  • Images. Download originals from the Media Manager, not screenshots.
  • SEO settings. Note each page's SEO title and description from the page settings, especially for pages that rank.
  • Forms. Record every field and where submissions go today.
  • Contacts and products. If you use Wix contacts or a Wix store, export what the dashboard allows (usually as CSV) and keep it safe.
  • Apps. List every Wix app and the job it does: bookings, reviews, chat, pop-ups. You'll replace the job, not the app.

Tip: pull your top pages from Google Search Console first. Those pages deserve the most care.

Step 2: Rebuild in Lovable, privately

  • Build on Lovable's preview address and keep every page set to noindex until launch.
  • Store blog posts, guides and testimonials in the database rather than hard-coding them, so they're easy to update.
  • Rebuild forms with proper consent checkboxes and a privacy notice, and send submissions somewhere you actually check.
  • Set up cookie consent so nothing tracks visitors until they agree.
  • Ask for pages to be rendered on the server, so search engines and AI assistants can read them without running JavaScript.

Step 3: Map every URL

Wix URLs often look like /post/my-article or /blank-1. Decide the new structure, then:

  1. Keep good URLs exactly as they are.
  2. List every URL that changes, with its new destination.
  3. Add permanent (301) redirects inside the new site for every changed path. Redirects you set up in Wix stop working once the domain points away from Wix.
  4. Test a sample before launch: each old URL should land on the right page in one hop.

Step 4: Decide where the domain and email live

This is where Wix moves go wrong, so decide before launch day.

  • Domain bought through Wix? You can keep it registered at Wix and simply point it at Lovable, or transfer it to another registrar first. Transfers take time and domains are usually locked for 60 days after registration or a previous transfer, so don't leave this to launch week.
  • Domain bought elsewhere? You'll only change the records that point the website.
  • Email. Find out where your email actually runs (often Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 bought through Wix or directly). Write down every MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC record. These must stay exactly as they are when you switch the website.

Step 5: Switch over

  1. Lower the TTL on the website records a day or two before.
  2. Freeze edits on the Wix site.
  3. In Lovable, connect your domain. For a domain managed elsewhere this means an A record pointing at Lovable and a TXT record to verify ownership, using the exact values your project shows you.
  4. Change only the website records. Don't touch email records.
  5. Wait for the SSL certificate, which Lovable issues automatically.
  6. Remove noindex, publish the sitemap and allow crawling.
  7. Test forms, redirects, www and non-www, mobile, and send yourself an email to make sure mail still flows.

Step 6: Clean up, slowly

  • Submit the new sitemap in Google Search Console and watch for 404 errors for a few weeks.
  • Keep the Wix site and your captured content for at least a month.
  • Only then cancel the Wix plan and any paid Wix apps. Check that nothing else (email, domain) is billed through them first.

Common mistakes

  • Cancelling Wix before checking what's billed through it. Domains and email are often bundled.
  • Relying on Wix redirects. They stop the moment the domain points elsewhere.
  • Moving nameservers without copying email records. The quickest way to lose a day of email.
  • Copying the old site exactly. A move is the cheapest moment to cut dead pages and fix your structure.
