RPA consultancy: UiPath, Blue Prism and Power Automate Desktop

Not every important system has an API. Some work still happens in a desktop application, one field at a time. RPA can handle repeatable screen-based work while AI helps interpret the documents and requests that start it. The controls matter as much as the clicks.

What it is

Robotic process automation uses software to carry out defined steps in business applications. It can enter an order, copy an approved value, download a report or reconcile records. RPA is strongest where the sequence is repeatable and the application can be identified reliably. It does not make a fragile screen dependable simply by moving the mouse faster.

An RPA consultant UK teams hire should look at the full operation: applications, accounts, credentials, scheduling, failures and ownership. We work with UiPath, Blue Prism and Power Automate Desktop, choosing the approach around your estate and requirements. An existing platform can be the sensible place to start, rather than buying another one.

If you need a UiPath consultant or Blue Prism consultant, bring the workflows and operational issues as well as the platform name. A stalled automation may have an unclear business rule, a changed screen or a permissions problem. The job is to identify the cause and design a maintainable route, not just add another exception handler.

What we automate

Order entry into a legacy desktop application is a typical example. An approved order arrives, required fields are checked, the application is opened, values are entered and the confirmation is captured. Duplicate detection and a clear stop condition are important. If the screen is unavailable, the workflow should report that rather than assume the order was accepted.

Other examples include moving approved data between systems, gathering reports from desktop software, updating account records and reconciling exports. Where an API is available and suitable, it may be a better option than screen automation. We assess both. The aim is to automate legacy systems appropriately, not to insist on RPA for every interaction.

Combining RPA with AI agents can help where inputs are less predictable. AI can extract a reference from an email or prepare a short exception summary. RPA can then perform the fixed application steps. We keep the boundary explicit: uncertain extracted values need validation, and a model’s suggestion must not silently become an authorised financial or customer action.

How we work

The Role Replication Sprint is a five-day starting point for one role’s workflow. We map the application steps, inputs and exceptions with the person who knows the job. We check the environment, access and test data before treating any demonstration as evidence. A narrow workflow is more useful than trying to automate every screen in the first engagement.

During the sprint we build and test a bounded path, including agreed failure cases. We look at selectors, waits, validation and the information needed for a person to recover a failed item. The result informs a separate Full Deployment scope. Production scheduling, machine capacity, credentials, audit requirements and platform licensing need their own decisions.

Build and run are not the same thing. After deployment, Ongoing Support can cover monitoring, application changes and optimisation. Your team needs an owner, a way to pause the automation and a documented recovery path. We agree responsibilities rather than suggesting the robot can be left unattended indefinitely. Deployment timing and pricing depend on the environment.

When it's not the right fit

RPA may be a poor choice for a constantly changing interface, a process with little repeat work or a system whose terms do not permit automated use. Where a stable API solves the same problem, use it. Where the underlying process is wrong, repeating it automatically does not improve it.

Some legacy environments require specialist access or changes from the software vendor. We cannot assume those permissions exist. High-stakes actions, incomplete source data and unclear exception ownership also need attention before deployment. We will discuss these constraints early, including whether a smaller workflow or an interface for human review is the better first step.

FAQs

Can you work with an existing RPA platform?

Yes. UiPath, Blue Prism and Power Automate Desktop are part of Bobby’s automation experience. We assess your current setup, licences and workflow before proposing changes or another platform.

What if our application has no API?

Screen-based automation may be an option. We check whether the application can be automated reliably and with permission, then test identification, validation and recovery rather than assuming compatibility.

Can RPA and AI work together?

Yes. AI can interpret an input or draft a recommendation while RPA performs defined screen actions. Validation and approval rules separate uncertain interpretation from permitted execution.

Will it break when the application changes?

Changes can affect automation. We plan monitoring, testing and recovery, and agree who maintains it. No screen-based workflow should be described as immune to application updates.
